Okay, so I have been waiting to see The Used since 2004. They’re my favorite band and my biggest inspiration. At times, their music was the only thing that kept me going. I love them to death and beyond.
Yesterday at the 97x Backyard BBQ, I literally FOUGHT my way to the barrier in the really hot, shitty Florida weather and stood a mixture of dirt, water, and shit for hours just so I was in front of Jeph. I finally got my chance to see them and the show was free.
Right before Shine, Bert made this speech, looked at me and smiled. I literally broke down in tears.
I had this written on my arm when they came on stage and Bert saw it. (I caught Dan’s drumstick at the end of the show.) This was the best moment of my entire life.
- Person: MCR are shit
- Me: First of all, you probably haven't even taken the time out of your shitty little life to listen to them. And secondly, MCR have and still are saving thousands of lives. No wait, MILLIONS. They saved each others lives too. You see the lead singer? Yeah, he was a depressed alcoholic. He spent most of his school life being bullied and always believed he'd never amount to anything. Guess what? He's in a life-saving band. You see that short guitarist? Every single gig MCR performs at, he plays his heart out. He suffered from illnesses all through his childhood but he still fought on. You see that guy that plays bass? Yeah, he was there when his big brothers confidence went down hill. He got depressed during the making of their THIRD LIFE-SAVING album, but still came back to finish it off. You see that amazing man with the afro? Yeah, his name is Ray. He is the best friend that was ALWAYS there for his band mates. He put all the shit he ever went to at the back of his mind and helped his best friends do the same. Oh and not forgetting Bob Bryar and Matt Pelissier, who were also there to help them through tough times.
- Now what was that you was saying?
- Person: says nothing because who the fuck would stick around for longer than the first sentence holy shit you're crazy.
- Do you practice this in your head everyday for the off chance someone might mention MCR? No one listens to a band because the band members are fucked up.
The Beatles - Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da
“Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da” is a song credited to Lennon–McCartney, but written by Paul McCartney and released by The Beatles on their 1968 album The Beatles (also referred to as The White Album). It was released as a single that same year in many countries, but not in the United Kingdom, nor in the United States until 1976.
Paul McCartney wrote the song around the time that highlife and reggae were beginning to become popular in Britain. The tag line “ob-la-di, ob-la-da, life goes on, bra” was an expression used by Nigerian conga player Jimmy Scott-Emuakpor, an acquaintance of McCartney.
According to studio engineer Geoff Emerick, John Lennon ”openly and vocally detested” the song, calling it Paul’s “granny music shit”. Lennon left the studio during a recording of the song (after several days and literally dozens of takes of the song, trying different tempos and styles), then returned while under the influence of marijuana, went immediately to the piano and played the opening chords much louder and faster than before. He claimed that was how the song should be played, and that is the version they ended up using.
When singing the vocals for the song, specifically the last verse of the song when sung the second time, McCartney made a slip and said “Desmond stays at home and does his pretty face”, rather than Molly, and had Molly letting “the children lend a hand”. Reportedly, this mistake was kept in because the other Beatles liked it. George Harrison and Lennon yell “arm” and “leg” during a break in the song; between the lines “…Desmond lets the children lend a hand” and “Molly stays at home…”
